“Paint the town red. Get ready to change your phone,” said its image indicating the price cut that Xiaomi has been offering over the last two months on variety of its mobile phones. It meane the Redmi 2 price will be slashed from Rs.6,999 to Rs.5,999.
The teaser on social media by Xiaomi could also mean the company is launching its new Redmi 2A in India priced at Rs.5,999. While the news will be made at 10 AM today’s morning, the Chinese smartphone maker has been on a spree of price cuts, with its Redmi Note 4G price already slashed to Rs.7,999 and the Xiaomi Mi 4 (16GB variant) brought down to Rs 14,999, with Redmi 2 awaiting clearance sale with a slashed price.
The Redmi 2 priced at Rs.5,999 would mean a good bargain as it features a 4.7 inch HD IPS display at 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, powered by a 64-bit 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor and sporting 1GB RAM and Adreno 306 GPU. It has USB OTG and runs on Xiaomi’s own MIUI 6 skin over Android 4.4 KitKat.
The Redmi 2 also has an internal storage of 8GB, expandable up to 32 GB via micro-USB card. The cameras also feature an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera.
The upgrade in Redmi 2A is over the 1.5GHz Leadcore L1860C chipset in Redmi 2, with a quad-core Cortex A7 CPU and Mali T628MP2 GPU. Otherwise, both devices are as good and any price cut on Redmi 2 will make it one of the preferred phones in budget phones segment.
