To be sold online from May 23, 2017, the new Xiaomi smartphone Redmi 4 will be available in matte black and gold at its own website Mi.com/in and Amazon India.

As expected, the Redmi 4 runs Android Marshmallow-based MIUI 8, eligible for Android Nougat preview out-of-the-box, and supports 4G LTE (VoLTE-ready) connectivity option with a 5-inch 720p display.

Powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor clubbed with Adreno 505 GPU, the Redmi 4 features a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, meant for selfies.

Since these smartphones are made in India, Xiaomi is able to cap the price at a cheaper than expected price tag for each variant, though it is available only in two variants. Also, this will be the first model to be sold in its Mi stores in many cities which are opened recently or being opened soon.

With smaller bezels, it has a 2.5D curved glass on the front and fitted in a metal frame, providing a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner that the company claims is to enable unlocking the phone in just 0.3 seconds. It also claims that the phone is more thermal efficient compared to its rivals in the same genre as the Moto G5.

Other specs include an IR blaster that can be used in tandem with the Mi Home app to control smart home appliances. Xiaomi country head Manu Jain said, customers can also “pre-book a device from Mi.com/in between 16 and 19 May by paying a small token advance of Rs 1,000 and pick it up from Mi Home on May 20.”
