With Xiaomi choosing the open sale route for all its latest phones, one phone that it still sells online every Tuesday on Flipkart is the Xiaomi Redmi 2, a budget 4G-smartphone from its stable.
On Monday, March 30, Xiaomi India Head Manu Kumar Jain said the MiPad open sale at 12 noon was sold out in 30 minutes, without giving out the exact number of units sold but promised to get more stock soon.
Today, the flash sale for Redmi 2 will open for all those 3 lakh pre-registered buyers sharp at 2 PM but the company suggests buyers to log on an hour before and wait for their turn with repeated refreshes to their page in Flipkart to buy instantly when the sale opens up.
Hopefully, this will be the last product from Xiaomi to sell online in a vexing pre-registration before a week and wait like a dog for a week to buy the cheap Chinese product. For many, it is worth it but equally criminal on the part of the company to wate the energy and resouces of lakhs of people across the country in a highly unproductive econcomic activity.
Like the first sale last week where 50,000 units were sold in 87 seconds, this time too another 50,000 will be sold, perhaps, in less than a minute. Otherwise, the company has said that already 300,000 people have registered and are awaiting to buy the mobile phone once it opens in less than one hour from now.
The dual-SIM Xiaomi Redmi 2, priced at Rs. 6,999, comes with a 4.7-inch IPS display with HD 720×1280 ppi resolution, Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 skin interface. Ppwered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor (Cortex-A53), Redmi 2 has only 1GB RAM and Adreno 306 GPU.
For memory, it has 8GB of inbuilt storage, expandable with a microSD card up to 32GB. With a 2200mAh battery, the Redmi 2 has an 8MP rear camera and another 2MP front camera for selfies.
Otherwise, Xiaomi is also floating its own retail website mi.com/in where it is showcasing its accessories and it will not be too late when it starts selling its mobile phones whether in flash sale or open here.
Otherwise, currently it is selling the latest Mi 4 64GB and 16 Gb version without registration and another Mi Pad is also sold without the brouhaha over flash sale. Even the budget Redmi Note 4G is on open sale.
