The festival of Diwali has been raining gold on Flipkart and the Chines mobile maker Xiaomi with the “Big Billion Day” sales skyrocketing but Dhanteras cannot be left unattended. Xiaomi will release 90,000 Redmi 1S phones priced Rs.5,999 today, Tuesday, October 21 on Flipkart.
The registration to buy 90,000 mobile sets on Flipkart is already over and the firm boasts that there are over 300,000 who have registered and waiting for the magic 2 PM dot to rush for ‘BUY’ button on Flipkart.
The page on flipkart also suggests potential buyers to open the website 2 to 3 hours before and wait for the 2PM to ring so they can press the buy button. It adds that the Redme 1S sale “will not include a complimentary screen protector and micro SIM card adapter”.
While “one phone per registered user per sale” is another rider, it advises those who failed to register for today’s sale to register again for the next sale, supposedly on the next Tuesday.
Ever since its first mobile online sale on Flipkart in July, Xiaomi has created ripples in the mobile industry posing threat to majors like Samsung and Apple over the new sales strategy.
With no advertising cost or retail overheads, the online sale with free media is pushing its sales to peak is new to the industry, while the specs and price attract the students and the huge Indian middle class, creating the synergy in its new massive ad blitz at no cost.
Its initial model Xiaomi Mi3 in July and August created the hype but the cost cut did not help the company continue its sale for long despite a record flash sale of 40,000 in four seconds continuously every Tuesday.
The next model Redmi 1S, priced much cheaper and with less specs was pushed to fill the gap of loss made in Mi3 sales and there was no need for the company to look back in terms of sales. Its plan to sell 90,000 today will be sold in 5 to 10 seconds and the company will get Rs.64 crore in a flash of moment.
Moreover, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S has an HD display, a quad core Snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM, though its OS is custom-made from Android Jelly Bean version. With its key specs can easily compete with similar devices from big names like the Moto G or the Asus ZenFone 5.
Though the company recently got into trouble with the Taiwanese authorities over the accuracy of its sales numbers, the situation in India is different altogether and encouraging for it. The Redmi 1S is also on sale in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines and Indonesia.
Specs of Redmi 1S:
The Redmi 1S is getting good reviews as the Moto G killer with a 4.7 inch IPS display, 1280×720 pixel resolution and powered by a quad-core 1.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 mobile chipset. With a 1GB RAM and internal storage of 8 GB, expandable up to 64 GB.
It runs on a version of MIUI that is based on Android 4.3 Jellybean, slightly an old version. The Redmi 1S sports dual SIM, one the standard SIM and the other for nano SIM with its own batteries and own recharger. On camera front, it has an 8-megapixel camera with a wide f/2.2 aperture and a LED Flash.
