As promised, Xiaomi has ushered in steep price cuts on Friday and claimed Rs.4,000 cut on its Mi 4- 64 GB variant.
But when we checked the price a day before the announcement on June 11, Mi 4 was selling at Rs.21,999 on Flipkart and it was promptly entered in our report, expecting some price cut.
When Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra said on Friday that it would be a steep fall of Rs.4,000, the final price remained at Rs.19,999, possibly because the company has factored in earlier discounts too. A clarification has been sought but there is no answer from Xiaomi when we published this story.
Yesterday, in its tweet, Xiaomi said, “We’re dropping some exciting news tomorrow noon,” with an image that showed pants dropping down to the ground, indicating a heavy price cut of Mi 4i, Mi 4, Redmi 2, MiPad tablet, Redmi Note 4G, and the Mi Band in India.
Hugo Barra, otherwise, disappointed Xiaomi fans on Friday with less actual price cut compared to a day before. In his Facebook posting he said: “Happy Friday everyone! Rs 4,000 off on Mi 4 64GB — starting right now for Rs 19,999 on Flipkart smile emoticon On top of that, Flipkart has exchange offers of up to Rs 5,000!” and went ot harp on its features as below:
- Precisely engineered stainless steel frame
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz, 3GB RAM and 64GB Flash
- 5” IPS Full HD display at 441 PPI, NTSC 95% color gamut
- 3,080 mAh battery, Quick Charge 2.0 support
- 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera (both with f/1.8 aperture)
