Will Black Friday Sales Tomorrow Surpass Last Year Record?

Black Friday this year falls on November 28, the day after Thanksgiving Thursday in the United States, which is known for its shopping spree every year with a long weekend to follow pushing customers out of their offices and homes.

With a call by Blacks to boycott the day, it remains to be seen whether this year’s shopping spree beats last year’s record or falls dramatically.

Similar to Boxing Day sales in many Commonwealth nations, Black Friday marks retailers to announce huge discounts and freebies for holiday shoppers. It has routinely been the busiest shopping day of the year since 2005 and this year too retailers like Target, Best Buy and WalMart. In addition, e-retailer Amazon is offering online discounts on Balck Friday.

In 2013, approximately 141 million U.S. consumers shopped on Black Friday, and the amount spent on the day reached $57.4 billion, while online sales too touched a whopping $1.2 billion.

On this particular day, retailers keep their doors open from 6:00 a.m. in the morning to 8:00 pm in the evening. In 2011, for the first time several top retailers including Target, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Best Buy, and Bealls opened shops till midnight.
