Who’ll Stop ‘Baahubali 2’ Juggernaut? Rajinikant’sh ‘2.0’, Aamir Khan’s ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ or Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’?

After cruising the expected Rs.1,000 crore box office collections in just 10 days, SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali 2’ is entering new frontiers of $200 million (Rs.1,250 Cr) worldwide collections for the first time, making it a challenger to Hollywood blockbusters.

Baahubali 2 became the first Indian film in US theatres to cross Rs.100 crore and still counting. In Tamil Nadu, where no other film but Rajinikanth’s film runs for more than 10 days minting money and restraining new releases, Bahubali 2 has thrown a new challenge to upcoming Hindi, Tamil combine 2.0 starring superstar Rajinikanth and Bollywood’s Akshay Kumar.

Ramesh Bala, industry tracker has put the gross earnings of Baahubali in 13 days, after its release in 9,000 screens worldwide on April 28, at Rs.1200 crore and added cautiously that there is no stopping to its ride. He tweeted: “As of yesterday, #Baahubali2: The Conclusion has crossed Rs.1,200 Cr. at the WW BO.. No signs of slowing down.. Will cross US$200 M WW today!”

Bala attributes the success of Baahubali 2 to the success of the first part, “Baahubali: The Beginning”, which had reserved same audience vying to go and watch film. Moreover, Ahushka and Tamannah are Tamil actors too and have their own following and Rajamouli’s ‘Nann Ee’ (Telugu Eega) had set the Tamil audience look forward to his film Baahubali 2 that was made in Tamil and not a dubbed version. “Another big plus is that the movie released during the summer vacation,” noted Bala.

Th challenge is Baahubali and Baahubali 2 were made at a budget of Rs.430 crore, whereas any film to be made into a mega-scale to compete with Baahubali record will have to be beyond that figure and nobody can take risk to put in Rs.500 crore for a film that may or may not be successful at the box office despite VFX or story or stardom.

There’s something more than that to ‘Baahubali’ and it lies in its story that we all loved as kids.
