With MAATV’s most successful program “Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu” taking twists and turns, it is unlikely to kick off before the summer of 2017.
As Chiranjeevi stepped in to replace Akkineni Nagarjuna, the initial teasers and trailers kicked off in October amid fanfare with new owners of MAA TV channel the STAR TV initiating the audition queries and other pre-screening done over the phone.
But Chiranjeevi reportedly put it on hold as his 150th film “Khaidi No.150” is in the final stages of post-production and set for release on January 11, 2017. Since the schedule could not see telecast of MEK 2017 before the film release, it was postponed for now, said industry sources.
Otherwise, the Telugu version of “Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu” was immensely popular in AP, Telangana and Karnataka with the host played by Nagarjuna, whose Annapoorna Studios handled the project more efficiently over the last three years.
Also, the response to Chiranjeevi hosting MEK was lukewarm when several promos were shown on MAA TV in October and November. It is still not clear whether the initial shooting for opening episodes were shot or not. Now that it is postponed without a word, rumours are going around about its viability with Chiranjeevi.
Though Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna have minor stake in MAA TV now, STAR TV is reportedly facing teething problem to make its first Telugu TV channel continue to be a successful one. For MEK, it is Chiranjeevi who may call the shots for now.
