WhatsApp Voice Calling Feature on Beta Testing Time Taken by Users Per Call

whatsappFacebook-owned WhatsApp, which is testing its upcoming voice calling feature, is currently into collecting usage patterns of limited recipients of the invite so far, according to sme developers.

Currently, the usage pattern testing is limited to test the amount of data used by each user under the conventional Voice-Operated Internet Protocol system so WhatsApp can develop the module for a better call quality and security.

Currently, those with activated Whatsapp Calling feature or VoIP can call other friends to make them enabling them to activate the feature on their phones too.

First, it requires recipients to update their version of WhatsApp. The new version with an activated calling feature then requires to receive a call from a friend or WhatsApp VOIP user already. Once such call is received, they can see three new tabs activated on their phone screen listing chats, contacts, and voice calling group.

If you are generous, you can make voice calls to other WhatsApp users and enable them join the voice calling feature or group of yours. However, not everyone is able to join the group despite receiving a voice call from a WhatsApp user/friend.

Since June 2014, WhatsApp is working on rolling out the feature despite rumblings from established telecom companies in many countries, including India where it has its second largest number of users at 70 million. WhatsApp has more than 700 million users all over the world.

However, some fictitious invites have cropped up recently for voice calling feature with users directed to malware downloading websites.

Otherwise, in India a Reddit user pradnesh07 first time reported that the feature was activated on his phone and he posted its image on the discussion forum. [SEE WhatsApp Rolling out Beta version of VOIP]

“The guy who sent me the invite confirmed that it works on other phones on other roms and other OS and in other countries. I am not sure how the invite thing works as yet,” wrote pradesh07 on Reddit. He, however, made a quick video and asked users to share it instead of bugging him to send an invite.

In another instance, BGR India claimed that it too received the invitation and made calls informing that the voice-calling feature can be noticed with a third icon next to Chats, Contacts of WhatsApp tab. The App also keeps a record of past calls via WhatsApp, it added.

Though voice calling is not new with instant messenger apps like Viber, Hike, Skype, and Line are already there, WhatsApp has created brouhaha beyond imagination before entering the arena. Its entry is also sending scare down the established telecom players Airtel, Aircel and Reliance in India, which are queueing up for spectrum allocation auction right now.

To sum up, some features evident about WhatsApp Voice Calling feature include:

It is confined to Android Lollipop 5.0 version and was successfully used by a Nexus 5 smartphone user, accessible via the new version 2.11.508 of the WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is still testing the beta version and now it is analyzing the time taken per call to make future loads on servers.

The WhatsApp Calling Feature can be downloaded only from the official WhatsApp website on INVITE and those successful can see the third icon on their screen next to chats and contacts.
