WhatsApp Voice Calling Feature Now in Apple iPhone too

WhatsApp has updated its iPhone iOS app with a free voice calling feature bringing a huge segment of mobile phone users on to its platform that was opened initially for Android devices.

The “WhatsApp Calling” feature, similar to Skype and the FaceTime Audio service on iOS mobile platform, will be free and 90% cheaper in any country. It works on user’s data connection or Wi-Fi, and is available for every iOS user.

“Call your friends and family using WhatsApp for free, even if they are in another country. WhatsApp calls uses your phone’s Internet connection rather than your cellular plan’s voice minutes,” the WhatsApp said on its blog post.

Someone with WhatsApp Voice calling feature should call you through WhatsApp. Then you will see a push notification from the messaging service showing, who the call is from.

Once you answer the call, you will be given the options to mute the call or put it on the speaker-phone. You can also send a message to the person calling you.

WhatsApp, now owned by Facebook, has 800 million monthly active users, about 10% of them in India. WhatsApp now has access to the world’s largest population in terms of active users, bigger than Twitter’s 288 million active users. Combined with Facebook that has 1.4 billion monthly users and Facebook Messenger’s 600 million users, it is the biggest tech conglomerate next to Google and Apple.
