Blade runner Oscar Pistorius, who has been cleared earlier of "murder" after a prolonged trial in South Africa, could not escape the sentence as the court sentenced him to jail term for conviction under Culpable Homicide charges on Monday, October 13, 2014.
The Pretoria high court earlier said he did not deliberately kill Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013 and the most dramatic trail that has caught the attention of the world for over six months will see its curtains down today with the final judgement on jail term or even let the blade runner walk out free under the South African rules.
In her ruling last time, Judge Thokozile Masipa said the prosecution had failed to prove "an intent to kill" when Pistorius fired four rounds of bullets through the locked door of a toilet cubicle, while Pistorius has maintained that he mistook Steenkemp for a dangerous intruder and hence fired.
Today’s trail will hear arguments from prosecution and defence, including an expert opinion from a psychologist. The term of sentence is unpredictable as South African rules for culpable homicide specify no fixed jail term.
Today’s Oscar Pistorius trial will begin at 10 am (08 am GMT, 3 am EST) and the entire trial will be broadcast live on the pop-up channel DStv, called ‘The Oscar Pistorius Trial: A Carte Blanche Channel’ and it will be available on DStv Premium, Compact Plus and Compact.
