Delhi Daredevils have a better batting line-up now but the two men worth to watch are Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy. As Duminy is the team’s top run-chaser with 212 runs from six matches, de Kock has made runs in each of his three matches so far.
Otherwise, Delhi Daredevils have failed to in their Twenty20 League this season but for the saving grace of South African southpaw JP Duminy in batting and India’s Mohammed Shami, and Wayne Parnell, in bowling. Just one notch above the defaced Mumbai Indians in the eight-team competition, Delhi Daredevils need only a magic or miracle of sorts to move up the ladder.
In fact, Daredevils are in such a mess that they need Ross Taylor, Dinesh Karthik and skipper Kevin Pietersen to do something radically different to aspire any change in their order in the tournament. Quinton de Kock and Murali Vijay have been inconsistent in their runs. The best way for Delhi is to put pressure on CSK batting first, restrict them to a gettable total but saying is one thing and doing it is another.
For MS Dhoni men in the CSK, it has been the power in their batting line-up through their openers – Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum. They have contributed 56 percent of the runs scored by their team this season and every time they have taken it upon themselves to win matches. Either Smith or McCullum scored top runs in five of CSK’s six matches so far this season.
CSK with formidables like Ben Hilfenhaus leading from the front, Mohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin to restrict the rival batsman. In addition, all rounder Ravindra Jadeja is there as a big asset for the team.
Delhi Daredevils v Rajasthan Royals: Coach Gary Kirsten should note that DD did not get too many runs in the middle overs. Despite having stroke-makers like Quinton de Kock, Kevin Pietersen, Dinesh Karthik and JP Duminy, DD has managed to get 48 runs in the middle line.
Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders: During CSK’s win against KKR, they were brilliant on the field though they posted 148 runs as their fielders saved runs on the field. It is estimated that CSK saved 14 runs that day – meant their opponents had to score more than they actually needed to. The other factor was the performance of the two spinners — R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja — who strangled the KKR batsmen, conceding only 33 runs in eight overs and picking up five wickets between them.
No team has defeated the Delhi Daredevils more often than the Chennai Super Kings and the two teams have so far met in 13 matches, and CSK have a 9-4 win-loss record against DD.
Chennai Super Kings have won 4 of their previous 5 IPL matches at the Ferozeshah Kotla. The home team, Delhi Daredevils, has won only 14 of their 35 matches at the venue.
The Delhi Daredevils are the only team whose captain has not won a coin toss this season.
