Cape Cobras without JP Duminy face the worst fate though there is plenty of experience among players who are capable of stepping on to the big stage to make up for Duminy’s absence. Hashim Amla is the the top batsmen in international cricket and has set the T20 stage on fire with his insatiable hunger for runs with a knack of accumulating runs without too much fuss.
Cobras other players capable of similar feat inclue opening batsman Richard Levi and the two Justin’s – skipper Ontong and all-rounder Kemp. In Vernon Philander and Robin Peterson, Cape Cobras have two great cricketers, who can contribute with both the bat and the ball, depending upon the urgency and need.
The Northern Knights will have to bank on Trent Boult and Tim Southee, who showed tremendous play in the three qualifying stage matches, both in bowling and batting. They gave jitters to the opposition batsmen, who have found the combination of swing, pace and discipline too difficult to deal with. In the 3 qualifying matches, the pair scored 20-0-111-12 combined.
On the batting front, the NK will expect the top order with Kane Williamson, Anton Devcich and skipper Daniel Flynn to be at the crease for the most of the play and set the stage ready for the likes of Daniel Harris, Scott Styris and Daryl Mitchell, who can pull off the powerful hits later.
Cape Cobras players have been good in both batting and bowling charts in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge 2013-14. The opener Richard Levi was the only one to score a century in the competition with 113 against the Knights. Beuran Hendricks’ 6 for 29 against the Northern Knights is one of the top bowling charts.
Stiaan van Zyl of the Cape Cobras may celebrate his 27th birthday on September 19, 2014 while on the crease, giving the opponents one momentum to relax.
