As Kanhaiya Kumar is visiting the Central University of Hyderabad (HCU) today, all the gates to the campus were shut down and the Vice Chancellor Appa Rao was sent back citing the panel probe still underway into the circumstances leading to the suicide of Dalit student Rohith Vemula.
After VC’s return that witnessed ransacking his office by outraged students, Kanhaiya Kumar, JNUSU president announced his visit to the central university whose dalit leader, he had earlier said was his guru and gave him the spirit to take on the central government in Delhi.
Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar’s visit on Wednesday witnessed closure of all gates of the university fearing violence and the administration barred media, political groups, outside students and Kanhaiya Kumar himself.
"The university has sought police protection and said in a statement that it will from today close down all gates except the main entrance to the university and will not allow media personnel, political groups, external students, organisations and politicians into the campus," said one official.
Tuesday’s violence led to the arrest of 25 students for damage to public property, unlawful assembly, illegally confining staff and attacking the police and classes have been suspended till next Monday.
Kumar would speak at the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram on Thursday, said CPI member K Narayana and its student organisation is holidng several events for Kanhaiya Kumar to address in the city, where the left parties are keen to kick-start their revamp program. Later, Kanhaiya Kumar will visit Vijayawada in the evening.
