Telugu film "Drushyam’, a re-make of Malayalam hit by Venkatesh and Meena has echoed similar record it had created in Malayalam, with a box office collection of Rs.1.39 crore in USA alone in the first weekend.
Released on 11 July, Drushyam garnered Rs.1.55 crore on the first day in AP and Nizam box office, said Andhraboxoffice.com. The seat occupancy rate on the first day and the weekend was in the range of 80 percent, said the website. The film is estimated to gross Rs.5 crore in the first weekend worldwide.
In the US market, it was able to collect $231,361 in the opening weekend (Rs.1.39 crore), according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film collected about Rs. 45 lakh in Thursday prviews and Friday release. "Telugu film #Drushyam takes a GOOD start at USA Boxoffice. Thu previews + Fri total: $ 75,095 [Rs 45.08 lacs]. Many screens yet to report," Adarsh tweeted.
In his latest tweet on Tuesday, he said: "Telugu film #Drushyam has fared very well in USA. Collected $ 231,361 [Rs 1.39 cr] in its opening weekend. Reported screens… Rentrak."
Directed by Sripriya, "Drushyam" is a remake of Malayalam blockbuster flick "Drishyam", which was a box office hit with Rs.50 crore at the box office.
The storyline is about a happy family which faces trouble after they commit a crime and how the father (Venkatesh) tries to save the family.
Apart from Venkatesh, Meena, Esther and Kruthika Jayakumat play his daughters and Nadiya, Paruchuri Venkateswara Rao, Chalapathi Rao and Sapthagiri are among the main cast.
