Kerala government, despite under the Left front, amassed Rs.144 crore by selling 72 lakh lottery tickets on the eve of Onam 2016, while the first prize gets Rs.8 crore, the second gets Rs.50 lakh and others far less.
This year, 72 lakh tickets priced Rs.200 each were sold raising an amount of Rs.144 crore and the state has gained a steep Rs.100 crore in profit, that too in a left-governed state, while many other governments have banned lotteries of any kind and refrained from encouraging them.
The annual Onam Bumper Lottery ticket carrying a first prize amount of Rs. 8 crore was decalred on Friday with the winning ticket number being TC-788368.
The Thiruvonam Bumper-2016 draw was held on Friday at Sree Chithra Home Auditorium, Pazhavangadi, East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram and the first prize Rs 8 crore and second prize is merely Rs 50 lakh.
The winning ticket number is TC-788368 but organisers said it should be authenticated and matched with the one mentioned in Kerala state government gazette. This is the only state-operated lottery in the south.
