Telugu Association of North America (TANA), the largest Telugu outfit outside India, said it would send an initial contribution of $100,000 for relief efforts for the victims of cyclone Hudhud, which has devastated Vizag and other coastal areas in Andhra Pradesh.
Expressing shock at the unprecedented loss, TANA President Mohan Nannapaneni said the Telugu organization in the US would help with both immediate relief and long term rebuilding measures in the battered region. He said the catastrophe has dealt a serious blow to AP, which is just beginning to rebuild its new capital.
Nannapaneni and Satish Vemana, Secretary of TANA, will meet AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to hand over the cheque. TANA further appealed to all Telugu NRIs living in North America to respond and contribute for the next round of relief. They said TANA Foundation will be matching the contributions from individual donations.
TANA also said that the funds collected by TANA for this cause are tax-deductible in USA and they will be directly sent to the relief efforts.
