Rohit Shetty cannot skip any year without making a super hit film and creating box office records, often beating his own past records and this year “Singham Returns” did the same to his earlier record collections made when “Chennai Express” was released last year on Ramzaan.
This year, his release of “Singham Returns” on the eve of the Independence Day raised many eye brows but the final outcome is there for all to witness. “#SinghamReturns packs a SOLID PUNCH. Collects Rs.32.09 crore nett on Friday. BIGGEST OPENER OF 2014.” declares trade analyst Taran Adarsh on Saturday.

Overseas too, the singham is roaring to success collecting Rs.2.66 crore in Gulf region alone. The secret being the maximum number of screens, 3,500 to be precise, is going to help him the fastest collector of cas at the box office and his calculations never go negative whether the media gives positive reviews or not.
In all, “Singham Returns” collected Rs. 32.09 crore on Friday, the first day of its release compared to Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’ which was able to collect Rs. 26.40 crore on its opening day marking the pre-Eid. As Adarsh said, it was the biggest opener of 2014 and Ajay Devgn joins the ranks of Rs.200-crore club.
Ironic that Ajay Devgn was able to overtake Salman Khan, after almost 25 years. Traceable to 1988, it may be recalled that Ajay Devgn was originally offered the lead role in “Maine Pyar Kiya” but lost it to Salman Khan who was keen on making his second film a success as his first film “Biwi to Aisi” was a flop.
But Ajay Devgn went on to make his debut with “Phool Aur Kaante” in 1991 and received a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance. With his recent “Bol Bachchan” Ajay Devgn joined the Bollywood club of Rs.100-crore actors and his latest “Singham Returns” should push him into the club of Rs.200-crore club.
