No wonder Madhuri Dixit, who was paid Rs.1 crore per episode in TV show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” has decided to quit when a younger star Shahid Kapoor was offered Rs.1.75 crore per episode, reiterating the fact that the Bollywood paychecks for actresses were always slimmer than the fat ones given to the male actors.
Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor is replacing veteran actress Madhuri Dixit who was a judge in the TV show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” for three seasons. When Colors channel CEO Raj Nayak took to Twitter to announce the decision, saying “Colors welcomes the King of dance and actor par excellence @shahidkapoor to #JhalakDikhlaJaa Coming soon #YouthIcon.”
Shahid Kapoor, who is on his way to nuptials, quickly said, “As I join the Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa family as its judge, I am looking forward to share my learnings and experience with the contestants. Being a dancer brought discipline to my life and changed it completely; I’m now hoping to transfer some of the knowledge towards shaping the young and talented choreographers in our country.”
While Madhuri did not reveal the reason for her to quit, it was reported that the difference in amount was a major factor that led to her exit from the TV show. However, the actress was diplomatic when she said, “I have been on ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ for three years now and I am taking a break to focus on other projects. I will be back shortly with probably something even more exciting.”
The 8th season featuring Shahid Kapoor, fresh from his marriage with a Delhi girl, will also have other celebrities like Shamita Shetty, Raftaar, Vivian Dsena, Radhika Madan, Kavita Kaushik, Sanaya Irani, Deepika Samson, Ashish Chowdhry, Mohit Malik, Scarlett Mellish Wilson and Faisal Khan.
Unless his lady luck blesses him, he may also go the way of Hrithik Roshan whose foray into the TV turned a big failure.Even SRK’s “Paanchvi pass” was a disaster. Only Salman Khan was able to sustain that too with the “Bigg Boss”. The reactions to the news were varied.
One reader said, “I will give more credit to Madhuri as dance shows have lost their charm long ago whereas something interesting like Bigboss will be watched even without a celebrity host. She gave a new lease of life to Jhalak,.”
Ironic but Madhuri Dixit was paid Rs.2.75 crore for the film “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun”, far more than what was paid to Salman Khan then. In fact, she started the remuneration of paying crores to actresses in Bollywood.
