After being a part of Modi’s cleanliness drive on Friday, BJP MP and actress Hema Malini adopted Raval village in Uttar Pradesh under Prime Minister’s Sansaad Adarsh Gram Yojana (MPs’ Model Village Scheme) on Monday.
The project aims to develop three Adarsh Grams or model villages by March 2019, of which one is expected to be achieved by 2016. The goal is to develop five such selected model villages, one in a year that would be developed by 2024. Under the ambitious village development project, each MP is asked to take the responsibility of developing physical and institutional infrastructure in three villages by 2019.
Hema Malini told IANS, "People keep chanting Radhe Radhe in the entire Raval but no one has ever thought of developing this village across the Yamuna River. I am determined to restore (to) Raval its original glory by bringing it on the tourist map. On Nov 17, I will go to Raval and start the work. The village will symbolise women’s empowerment." Raval is situated nine km from Mathura.
Chief Development Officer Durga Shakti Nagpal told IANS, "The population of the village is about 4,500. It meets all the parameters laid down in the scheme. The village has remained neglected. But now it will receive the attention it deserves."
Hema Malini selected Raval out of 179 villages in Mathura district for the scheme. The scheme has been declared for poor, families and villagers by Modi. The project launched on the occasion of birth anniversary of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan, aims to keep the soul of rural India alive while providing its people with quality access to basic amenities and opportunities to enable them to shape their own destiny.
However, according to Ministry of Rural Development, the scheme is unique and transformative as it has a holistic approach towards development. It envisages integrated development of the selected village across multiple areas such as agriculture, health, education, sanitation, environment, livelihoods etc.
Meanwhile, Hema Malini has launched a mass cleanliness campaign in this holy town in Uttar Pradesh on Friday. The BJP leader has also administered a pledge calling upon students and people to commit themselves to cleanliness.
Urging shopkeepers and residents to ensure that their town remained clean, Hema Malini has gone through the main markets after the launch of cleanliness campaign.
At one point, Hema Malini has reportedly picked up the broom to demonstrate how people should keep their surroundings tidy.
Amid, during his recent visit to Varanasi on Saturday, Modi has spread his message of cleanliness drive where he himself cleaned an area on the river bank of Ganga, removing silt and dirt accumulated there at the Assi ghat.
