Samsung Galaxy On5, Galaxy On7 Launched with Slight Variation

Samsung has priced its latest Galaxy On series smartphone Samsung Galaxy On5 at Rs.8,990, and Samsung Galaxy On7 at Rs. 10,990, both sporting varying features and many similarities.

Both On series smartphones sport the dual-SIM dual-4G and operate on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, to be available from tonight after mid-night on Flipkart exclusively in black and gold colours.

While the Galaxy On5, priced Rs.10,990 has a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixel) TFT display, the Galaxy On7 has a 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixel) TFT display but both have similar processor – 1.2GHz octa-core Exynos 3475 SoC coupled with 1.5GB of RAM. Both smartphones have same storage capacity of 8GB built-in storage that is expandable via microSD card up to 128 GB.

Both, however, differ on camera front. The Galaxy On5 sports an 8-megapixel rear autofocus camera and a 5-megapixel front camera, while the On7 features a 13-megapixel rear autofocus camera and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies.

Another difference is that the battery in On5 is of 2600mAh that measures 142.3×72.1×8.5mm, and weighs 149 grams, while the On7 has a 3,000mAh battery that measures 151.8×77.5×8.2mm, and weighs 172 grams.

Samsung has described its Galaxy On5 as a “sleek design” and a camera that promises “superb selfies” with a metal frame and leather-type back cover.

Electronics giant Samsung’s market share in the Indian smartphone segment has crossed 40 percent as of June, 2015, claimed the south Korean conglomerate.

“Our market share (smartphone) has crossed 40 percent by value in June this year. Since January 2015, we continued to grow for six consecutive months and widened the gap (marketshare),” Samsung India VP marketing (IT and mobile) Asim Warsi claimed on the basis of GfK data comparison with during January 2015 that was about 35 percent.

In 2015, Samsung has launched more than 20 devices. But there are reports that its margins are shrinking in the Indian market. In all, mobile industry was growing at 12-14 percent with 6-7 million unit market for smartphones.

Samsung has 2,100 exclusive Samsung stores and reaches to 1,500 other retail outlets in India with its wide range of products including 4G-enabled smartphones.
