Reliance Jio is not content with three months free bandwidth to its Jio Prime members but also widening its reach via Jio-branded products ranging from 4G LYF smartphone, JioFi modem for 3G phones, besides JioMoney and JioLife for entertainment seekers.
What has not captured the public pulse yet was the company’s move to manufacture a 4G Laptop, which reports said, was based on MacBook Air clone in India. PhoneRadar has reported that the laptop would come out with a 13.3-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution but its operating system would be Windows OS or Chrome OS.
The report also suggested that it would be powered by a quad-core Intel Pentium processor with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage capacity, besides a HD camera for video calls. The keyboard is likely to be chiclet style keyboard, with connectivity options like Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports, micro HDMI port and microSD card slot.
Since Reliance Jio is already working on a 4G smartphone to be priced the least at Rs.1500, no wonder the idea of a 13.3-inch laptop is already catching the attention of future laptop buyers, especially the youngsters who would make maximum use of 4G both at home and in colleges. It is likely to provide all the Jio suite of services in the device, which hitherto were downloaded.
Not named still, the Jio 4G Laptop is rumoured to be in the making at a secret Foxconn facility and it would sport a 4G SIM card slot on one side with several USB slots on the other, making it easier for multiple usage. However, no reports have guessed about the price of the 4g Jio Laptop yet but the market for such products has not gone profitable if priced more than Rs.10,000. Perhaps, Jio might be working on a $100 laptop.
What’s Next? Jio is planning to launch DTH services soon. It is also reportedly working on rolling out gigabit wired broadband service in India under its FTTH service.
