The aged actor has been portrayed young with a typical muffler around the neck in the poster seen walking fast like his earlier film ‘Shivaji’. A village temple in the background of the poster reveals no storyline as such but it is learnt to be a village-centric drama with Rajinikanth playing the lead roles of a village head and his progeny.
The flashback in the film takes the story into the pre-Independence era, it learnt. Director KS Ravi Kumar, who was known for successful Rajinikanth films in the past like “Muthu” and “Padayappa”, is expected to be equally keen to make “Lingaa” a big hit, though it is not a huge budget film like “Robo” or “Kochadaiyaan”. In fact, Rajinikanth’s films are a craze in Japan, where the prime minister is heading to this weekend.
Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha is playing the lead female role and Anushka Shetty also plays a key role in the film against the elder Rajinikanth. Jagapathi Babu, who is emerging as the new villain in town is also cast in the film besides Santhanam, VIjayakumar, Dev Gill, Karunakaran, Radha Ravi and Manobala.
AR Rahman is composing the music for the Rockline Entertainments film. The shooting for “Lingaa” is underway since April this year and the audio release will sometime around Deepavali. The film is set for release on Rajinikanth’s birthday on December 12.
This movie will be a testimony for Rajinikanth’s stardom, who is equally popular in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language films. Though he was born and brought up in Bangalore and worked as a bus conductor, moved to his passion in films to become a remarkable hero with style and sensibility. He is even featured in CBSE text book for his simplicity, humble background and as a lesson for many to emulate.
Though Rajinikanth joined twitter last year and being followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he has tweeted only 7 times so far but followed by 800,000 fans and admirers. Never did he re-tweet others’ tweets.
