Rajinikanth-Starrer ‘Kabali’ Box Office Collections Touch Rs.100 Crore in 2 Days

Despite bad reviews, Rajinikanth-starrer “Kabali” has made a whopping box office collections of Rs.100 crore wordwide in just 2 days of its release in 12,000 screens. On Day 1, the record collections were mindboggling at Rs.48 crore, crossing even Salman Khan’s “Sultan” collections. In US, its premier box office earnings crossed even “Bahubali” collections, said early reports.

Distributor Rajesh Thadani was upbeat over the success of the film. “The film has made an outstanding first day collection of around Rs 48 crore. But since the review is not that great, there will be a drop in its collection from Monday.”

In Tamil Nadu, “Kabali” collected Rs.21.5 crore on its opening day beating earlier records though trade analysts attributed the record collections to tax exemption for the film in the state. “Since the film was exempted from entertainment tax, it managed to register such a big opening,” trade analyst Trinath said.

In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Telugu dubbed version was able to collect Rs.13.5 crore. Since the film managed unprecedented advance bookings, it can sustain for at least a week, said Trinath.kabali2

Another trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Kabali [Tamil+Telugu] sets new benchmarks in preview shows in USA-Canada… Takes an EPIC start on Thu: $ 1,925,379 [₹ 12.93 cr]. SUPERBBB!”

In overseas markets, the film emerged as number 1 in Malaysia, number 3 in USA-Canada and number 10 in UK. “Kabali [Tamil+Telugu] opening in international markets: Malaysia: No 1 [Thu+Fri] USA-Canada: No 3 [Thu pre] UK: No 10 [Thu+Fri] @Rentrak,” tweeted Taran Adarsh.

The film’s satellite version has already made Rs.200 crore before its release and is now expected to earm anywhere between Rs.400 to Rs.500 in box office collections worldwide.

Its premiere in the US grossed the highest collections in history for any Indian film, shattering even the record of “Bahubali”, not to speak of Salman Khan’s “Sultan”.

Kabali’s US distributor Cine Galaxy said:“#Kabali @ $1,317,288 as of 4 pm EST Heading towards a record premiere day.” This compared to Bahubali box office collections of $1,382,076 (full day) from its US premiere and Sultan’s $786,194, is likely to be a new record for any Indian film.
