Kangana Ranaut bagged the best performance award in Leading Role-female awards at the 16th edition of IIFA 2015 held on Sunday at Kuala Lumpur for the last year released movie ‘Queen.’
The film’s director Vikas Bahl had to receive the trophy on Kangana’s behalf, as the actress was not present to receive the trophy for Best Performance in Leading Role-female awards.
‘Queen’ tops all the honours at the three-day long 16th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards 2015. The movie bagged awards for the Best Picture, Best Story and Best performance in Leading Role-female awards.
However, Vikas Bahl couldn’t get the award for the Best Director for the movie ‘Queen’ though expectations were running high. The award in the Direction category was bagged by Rajkumar Hirani for Aamir-starred movie ‘PK.’
Besides, the Best performance in the Leading Role Male category was taken away by Shahid Kapoor for his spectacular performance in ‘Haider.’ The actor also performed at the award ceremony.
Shahid Kapoor was nominated against really strong contenders which included Aamir Khan (PK), Hrithik Roshan(Bang Bang) and Shah Rukh Khan(Happy New Year).
Deepika Padukone was felicitated with Woman of the Year Award. She was also nominated in the category of Best performances in Leading Role-Female awards.
The Best Debut Awards both male and female were taken away by Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sason respectively. Both the actors made their debut in Bollywood by acting in the movie ‘Heropanti.’
Best Director Trophy was bagged by the National Award-Winner Omung Kumar for his movie ‘Mary Kom.’ He shared it with popular producer ‘Sajid Nadiadwala,’ who made his directorial debut with the movie ‘Kick.’
The Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema was honoured to the showman- Subhash Ghai. The moment was quite emotional when this award was announced by Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff with whom Ghai worked since his 1989 movie Ram Lakhan and many more.
Shraddha Kapoor paid a tribute to Subhas Ghai by performing on songs from movie ‘Taal’ and ‘Kisna.’
Ranveer Singh, who hosted IIFA Awards 2015, also paid a special tribute to ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,’ starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, which completed its 1,000 weeks of screening last year.
The IIFA2015 Award ceremony saw a huge screaming crowd of fans at the Putra Indoor Stadium where the ceremony was held. Few of the fans had flown from different countries just to see their favourite Bollywood star at the ‘Larger than Life’ event which celebrates Indian Cinemas in various foreign countries every year.
