Luv Ranjan’s sequel to his 2011 hit film “Pyaar Ka Punchnama” was released on Friday but reviews have gone ahead assailing the film as nowhere near brainy nor funny. Here is a list of some such reviews giving quite opposite views on the film’s quality of fun and fame:
If Ranjan’s intention with Pyaar ka Punchnama 2 was to make men turn their backs on women and contemplate homosexuality as the more emotionally sustainable option, then he’s hit the jackpot — First Post.
Pyaar Ka Punchanama 2′ review by the Indian Express said: “In the sequel all we get is more of the same, minus the freshness and the age-appropriate smart lines.” The first had some punch and was okay for a bunch of laughs. The sequel is flat and unfunny, said the review.
Pyaar Ka Punchnama sequel maintains the pace and comedy timings of the first film, said Hindustan Times review that was headlined “This sequel is super-funny”.
IANS fim critic Subhash K. Jha says the brands it an extremely enjoyable vaguely misogynistic comedy. “Pyaar Ka Punchnaama 2 is not just bolder more provocative than the first part. It’s a lot sexier and smarter. A chirpy chutzpah cuts through the sharply-written narrative creating a credible and disturbing argument against urban relationships of convenience.”
Bollywood Hungama makes it sound more balanced. “On the whole PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA 2 packs a solid punch with its unusual, yet relevant storyline. It is a film for youngsters who may patronize it in a big way. Recommended.”
