In a report that will have adverse impact on India’s image abroad, the country’s National Human Rights Commission said on Friday that Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union leader Kanhaiya Kumar was subjected to psychological pressure. If proved, India may face flak from the US and European countries and Kanhaiya may even become one of the Nobel Peace Prize nominees.
The NHRC said Kumar was made to issue the statement that Police commissioner Bassi had put on his Social Media account.“Kanhaiya Kumar was abused and physically assaulted by some persons dressed as advocates in the Patiala House court premises on February 17.
He was even physically assaulted inside the adjoining court room in the presence of police who did not do anything to prevent the assault or apprehend the attackers even though they were identified by Kanhaiya Kumar then and there. The physical assault on Kumar in the court premises appears to be organised and pre-planned,” said a report submitted to the NHRC by its fact-finding panel.
JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar, 28, is currently in Tihar Jail facing sedition charges slapped on him by Delhi Police claiming he had raised anti-India slogans and now it said he failed to stop people inside the campus from raising those slogans and later added that he failed to file police complaint against those raising slogans and hence he is charged with sedition.
Kanhaiya’s lawyers Sushil Bajaj and Vrinda Grover are also facing pressure that they were escorted by police to the high court to file for Kanhaiya’s bail on Friday after the supreme court refused to hear bail plea. Soon, security in and around the high court was tightened with the deployment of additional police personnel and CRPF jawans.
