PM’s US Visit: Modi to Address Indians at New York’s Madison Square Garden

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address about 20,000 Indian-Americans during his US visit at the Madison Square Garden in New York and his speech will be beamed live on the giant screens of the iconic Times Square.
The speech in midtown Manhattan on September 28 will be shown at Times Square with the organisers of the mega event, Indian American Community Foundation (IACF), signing a memorandum of understanding in this regard with Times Square Alliance.
The speech will carry English sub-titles. There will also be audio available to which people can listen live either dialing a toll free number or by downloading an app on their smart phone.
Modi is about to address a 20,000 packed crowd inside the Madison Square Garden for which nearly 40,000 people had applied from across the nation.
Regarding Mod’s first US visit after being the Prime Minister, Madison Square Garden has hosted everything from political conventions (both Democratic and Republican) to legendary music concerts (from Beatles to Lady Gaga) for the event.
According to reports, IACF has raised about USD 1.5 million for the mega event, while donations are still pouring in from across the United States. Thousands of people have made donations to IACF through its website. An official revealed that majority of the donations have come from individuals and said that they are very strict on corporate donations.
A souvenir magazine for the occasion is bringing out by IACF and sponsors of the pages are being offered complimentary seats, which are a few hundred.
Each attendee will be given a souvenir, a glossy full colour magazine with content that celebrates the Indian diaspora, the common values of democracy, and content about the Prime Minister and the historic election which his party won.
It has been declared by IACF that money raised in excess would be donated to charitable and non-profit organisations. Tickets to the events are free, although prior registration is required.
The biggest reception so far for a visiting Indian Prime Minister took place in 2003 in US. It was Atal Behari Vajpayee who addressed 3000 NRIs at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York in 2003.
