The People’s President, the renowned missile scientist died on Monday after collapsing while giving a lecture at Indian Institute of Management in Shillong.
His body was flown to Guwahati in Assam this morning and will be brought to Delhi by a special aircraft. His body will be received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be accompanied with Home Minister Rajnath Singh at the Delhi Airport.
Dr Kalam, 83, collapsed after a massive cardiac arrest while giving a lecture.
“All efforts were made but Dr A P J Abdul Kalam could not be revived,” the Bethany Hospital said in a statement.
The government has declared a seven-day national mourning as a mark of respect.
No holidays have been announced by the central government, however few states have decided to give holiday and declared a week mourn.
Dr. Abdul Kalam once said, “In case of my death don’t do a National Holiday but work a day extra, that will make me happier.”
