Spanish actress Penelope Cruz has won 2014 “Sexiest Woman Alive” title over last year’s winner Scarlett Johansson in a contest held by Esquire, the men’s lifestyle magazine.
The 40-year-old actress joins 10 others like American actress Johansson, actress Mila Kunis, Barbados-born pop star Rihanna, actress Angelina Jolie, actress Halle Berry and South African actress Charlize Theron with the title. The November issue of Esquire will feature Cruz.
Cruz, however, said she doesn’t believe that she is the sexiest woman but more like a mother who never gets enough sleep, in her interview to the magazine. Quoting Hamlet, she said, “Assume a virtue, if you have it not.”
Cruz has two children with husband Javier Bardem. She has starred in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and spoke about the film at length. “I’ve made it hard for me sometimes, especially in my teens and twenties. I had an attraction to drama. Most of us have that, especially if you are an artist—you feel like you are tempted to explore the darkness. I could not be less interested now. For me, the most attractive, charming, cool, fun, interesting thing—how could I call it? A plan.”
Cruz has also won the Academy Award as supporting actress in the film and became famous in 2001 to go on acting in other Hollywood movies “Vanilla Sky” and “Blow”. She is currently shooting for the upcoming film in Spanish-language “Ma Ma.”
