Founder of Oculus VR founder Paler Luckey said that he will not block virtual reality porn from the Oculus Rift headset.
Speaking at the Silicon Valley Virtual Reality Conference and Expo in California, Luckey said that the Rift was “an open platform.” “The rift is an open platform. We don’t control what software can run on it, and that’s a big deal,” he said.
This will obviously take time to become a reality. Only limited studios shoot scenes in the format required for VR, even though there are some videos you can find on the internet already.
The adult entertainment industry was anyway going to find its way to the virtual revolution and the influence it has should not be taken casually. Ultimately, when the porn industry backed up with Sony’s Blu-Ray that was one of the reasons the high-definition format war ended and Toshiba’s HD DVD became a history.
As reported earlier, Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headset for 3D gaming, will be available only for Windows OS and that the development work for Linux and Apple OS X is halted.
Oculus chief architect Atman Binstock explained that having common specs will reorganize the development process and allow programmers to create apps and games that will offer a consistent experience for users.
If the hardware is not in correspondence, the VR headset would bring a negative experience. He further stated that the specs will remain the same while the cost of the components in technology will reduce. This will enable wide range of PCs to use the Rift.
As for Mac and Linux users are concerned, the Rift work will recommence in the future. At present Oculus is solely focusing on Windows.
Oculus revealed that the headset will hit the market shelves in the first quarter of 2016.
