Note Ban: Shamed Teenager Hangs Self over Non-Payment of School Fee

Here is a bizarre incident in which a teenager in Hyderabad allegedly hanged himself on Wednesday after he was humiliated by school management and other students for non-repayment of fee owing to note ban.

A student of Ifham Talent School, the boy was allegedly humiliated in the worst form for not paying the school fee on time. His brother Basheer told NDTV that they “pulled his pants down and made him sit with much younger boys.”

The harassment went on for days together as his parents found it difficult to get cash required owing to ban on old notes.

Ironic but he finally paid the fee on Wednesday but not without the inhuman humiliation around. Even while paying, he was shamed by peers, said his family members.

Soon he returned from the school and locked himself in a room and allegedly hung himself with a stole. His parents filed a complaint with the police and the principal, Khaja Zainulabedin, has been arrested.

A case of abetment to suicide was registered and the police seized some documents from the school. They have also questioned students and Salman’s friends who said he had wept and said he would never return to school again.

The school management, however, denied that the teen was harassed and said his personal reasons could have driven him to death.

The boy’s parents said they could not pay his school fees for two months due to the ban on 500 and 1,000 rupee notes.
