One indication of an upcoming device is that its predecessor version gets hugely discounted but in case of Nexus 6, speculations are high that it would be released in October but no price cut on Nexus 5 is leading to rumors that the release date is not in October but beyond.
Google Play store still shows the old price $350 but some online carriers have begun giving discounts on the Nexus 5, in anticipation of the Nexus 6 aka X any time in the next couple of months. eBay sold 2000 units of Nexus 5, 16GB variant, (Unlocked) recently at a discounted price of $314.99 but soon stopped saying "Sold Out" on its website.
It means the supply of Nexus 5 is either stopped intentionally or the second-rung retailers are creating a shortage to increase the hype around the release of the Nexus 6.
While speculations are high that Nexus 6 is coming soon, possibly in October itself, other indications are also high that it would get further delayed to October 31, if not November. Google Vice President Sundar Pitchai, who was in India recently said the smartphone Nexus 6 would be unveiled in October but the hint has failed to trigger price discounts in India too.
For instance, the 16GB version of the Nexus 5 is being sold at Rs.28,999 on Google Play with no discount from its original price while it is available from Snapdeal at Rs.25,240, 25,512 on Amazon, 25,749 on Flipkart, 27,433 on eBay, 28,500 on Paytm, and 28,849 on ManiacStore.
One reason why Nexus 5 is still commanding the same old price is that its features are still outstanding compared to the upcoming Nexus 6 features, which are leaked intermittently online but with no certainty. Nexus 5 has a 4.95-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixels compared to rumored Nexus 6 with 5.2-inch screen with 1440x2560p resolution. The internal memory may be 32GB for Nexus 6, which is double the entry level 16GB upgradable to 32 GB offered on Nexus 5.
Nexus 5 has 8MP camera with autofocus and LED flash but Nexus 6 is expected to sport 13MP rear camera and 2.1MP front snapper, according to Antutu benchmark listing. Nexus 5 has Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset and runs on Android KitKat 4.4 version upgradable to v4.4.4 compared to Nexus 6 which is purportedly powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with CPU speed close to 2.5GHz.
According to G4Games website, Nexus 6 may feature a Quad-core MT6732 64-bit chip clocked at 1.5GHz, or the octa-core MT6752 SoC running at a frequency of 2.0GHz.
Other reports said, Nexus 6 may run on Google’s new yet-to-be-released Android L and sport a 3100 mAh Li-Polymer battery with longer than 8 hours battery standby. Other interesting features hinted include a curved LCD display, polycarbonate body, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and micro-USB connectivity slot, among others.
