NET Exam 2014: Last Date to Apply for UGC Fellowhips is Nov. 14

The UGC’s National Eligibility Test (NET) for higher Ph.D. fellowships and Lecturerships will be held by the Central Board Secondary education (CBSE)

on outsourcing basis in December 2014 this year and the online application process is available from October 15, said the CBSE.

“Eligible candidates can apply online before November 15, 2014. The examination will be held nationwide on December 28, 2014,” said the CBSE. The last date for applying online and generation of filled Bank Challan for Fee is November 19, 2014 and the last date of submission of Fee through online generated Bank Challan, at any branch of (SYNDICATE/CANARA/ICICI BANK) is November 18, 2014.

The last date to take a printout of Application Form, Attendance Slip and Admit Card from website is November 19, 2014 and the last date for receiving the printout of online Application Form (one copy) and Attendance Slip (one copy) at the respective Coordinating Institution opted by the candidate (with fee receipt & category certificate(s) is November 25, 2014, said a statement from the CBSE.

All post-graduates with more than 50% are eleigible to apply but candidates are advised to visit the official website http://cbsenet.nic.in to check their eligibility.

CBSE will conduct NET in 79 subjects at 87 selected NET Coordinating Institutions spread across the country. The exam is conducted twice in a year and the last NET for the June session was held on Sunday, June 29, 2014.

The exam, conducted by the UGC since its inception in 1984 was being outsourced to CBSE. UGC will prepare the question papers, anyway. Over 33,000 candidates appeared for the examinations in June session but results are still not announced.

The candidates who qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also eligible for Assistant Professor’s post. The universities, institutions, IITs and other national organizations may select the JRF awardees for whole time research work in accordance with the procedure prescribed by them.

The board mentioned that the award of JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor or both will depend on the performance of the candidate in all three papers of NET. However, the candidates qualifying exclusively for Assistant Professor will not be considered for award of JRF.
