The damage is extensive in kathmandu and the historical tower collapsed to rubble while the Kathmandu airport was shut on Saturday causing cancellation of Indian flights bound for the capital city of Nepal.

An IndiGo flight for Nepal, which left at 11:30 a.m. was called back mid-air and the departures of two others were cancelled and an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah to Kathmandu was also diverted to the Indian capital New Delhi instead of Kathmandu.

Several airlines soon cancelled their flights bound for Nepal and an Indigo flight was called back from Kathmandu, and the departure of two flights of Jet Airways and Air India met similar fate. “SpiceJet flights to KTM (Kathmandu) is on hold until we get more news on impact of earthquake and readiness of Kathmandu airport,” a spokesperson told IANS.
