More than 80 journalists from media protested at Press Club of Bangalore against CBI raids on NDTV founder Prannoy Roy’s home in Delhi and Dehradun on Monday.
Organised by the Journalist Study Centre, the said it is the beginning of muzzling the press by BJP the way LK Advani predicted an emergency’s return soon. Advani is facing the Ayodhya temple case trial now.
“The CBI raids are a move by the government to suppress the freedom of press,” BTV journalist Naveen Soorinje told the Hindu.
“This is the first time in recent history that the CBI intervened with respect to a private loan. We are not questioning the financial aspects of the case. We see this as the beginning of vendetta politics by the BJP where they are attacking the watchdog of democracy,” writer Shripad Bhat told media.
Bhat said the raids were directly connected to the recent interview by NDTV anchor Nidhi Razdan where she had asked BJP’s Sambit Patra to leave her show for his remarks. “The union government is trying to silence dissent,” said Mr. Bhat.
He recalled how L.K. Advani warned two years ago that Emergency could return.
