PM Narendra Modi’s customised suit with his name repeatedly printed on it costing about Rs.10 lakhs and worn when US President Barack Obama visited India duing the Republic Day will be auctioned for raising money for an NGO, said officials.
The auction will be held in surat on wednesday when Modi will be flagging off the aero India Show in Bangalore. The auction proceedings will go to Namami Gange Trust Fund and nearly 455 other items will also go under hammer to generate funds for the Prime Minister’s ambitious "Swachh Bharat" or ‘Clean India Mission’.
"The gift items belonging to Prime Minister Modi is a national treasure and the money generated from the auction will be utilised for the ‘Clean Ganga Mission’," Surat Municipal Commissioner Milind Toravane said.
The event will be held at SMC’s Science Convention Centre at city-lights road in Surat as per the direction from the Prime Minister’s Office(PMO), he said. When he was Gujarat CM, Modi had initiated a trend to auction the gifts he received in a year and it was donated to Kanya Kelavani Yojna for girl child education, he reminded.
The suit has earned him much criticism for being narcissistic while others raised questions on its cost at Rs.10 lakh.
