Despite halting at Frankfurt en route to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not forget to greet on Friday his predecessor former PM Dr Manmohan Singh on his 82nd birthday sending a message:”Best wishes and warm greetings to Dr Manmohan Singh ji on his birthday. May he be blessed with a long life and good health”.

More than the gesture, it actually erflects the reciprocity on Modi as Dr Manmohan Singh never missed to visit his predecessor ailing former PM AB Vajpayee at his residence once every month, keeping protocol at bay. More than the BJP leaders, it was Dr Manmohan singh who was regular in his visits to Vajpayee and Modi was following the protocol.

In fact, cutting across the party line, Congress leaders, especially Digvijay Singh and Gulam Nabi Azad praised PM MOdi’s quick gesture to provide relief measures to the flood-hit Kashmir valley early this month.

The latest Modi message also reflects the right democratic tradition set in the US by all the American presidents who addressed their predecessors “President” in public fora. Now that Modi is scheduled to arrive in New York today, Friday, on his maiden visit may get to know more such protocol gestures.
