Microsoft Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Solitaire with Global Tournament Starting June

solitaireAs Solitaire, Windows much-loved card game, celebrates 25th anniversary on Monday, Microsoft announced it will be holding global tournament in June.

This news will surely thrill those who have been ardent fans of this classic game.

“It was 25 years ago that Microsoft Solitaire debuted on Windows, and to honor the decades of fun it’s given us all, we’re celebrating with two big competitions,” the Windows Team wrote in a blog post.

Players can select from five popular versions of Solitaire, including classic Klondike, FreeCell, Spider, TriPeaks, and Pyramid. Microsoft is yet to reveal a timeline for the tournament, or what prize, if any, the winner will receive.

The world battle of Solitaire will begin with an internal match among employees of Microsoft. The winners will then enter a worldwide match against the general public, or as Microsoft put it in an official post, “[Y]ou’ll be challenged to bring your best to defeat our best. Are you up to the challenge? Get your Solitaire game on today.”

Although Windows 8 users would need to download the game from the Windows Store, this favourite game will rolled out in to the operating system when Windows 10 launches later this year.

If you want to try your hand at it, you can practice your Solitaire skills by downloading the game for free on Windows or Windows Phone. According to Microsoft, Solitaire is currently the top free Windows Store game.
