It was a flip-flop of screening the iconic Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (DDLJ) even after finishing its 1000 weeks at a stretch.
When Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir announced that it would discontinue the daily screening of the film on February 19, even its producers Yash raj Films reiterated the decision but the social media took different stand and went viral opposing the decision ex tempore.
It was later decided under ‘public pressure’ to continue running the for a week more. Its director Manoj Desai said, “In the meanwhile, we will decide its fate.”
Actual negotiations over the screening of the film, which means footing the bill of the staff for those extra three hours and bearing incidental expenses have to be borne by somebody. With both Shahrukh Khan and Kajol involved in the parleys, it was finally decided by Yash Raj Films to continue screening of the film.
YRF management said: “Authorities have decided to immediately reconsider their decision. Given this, it has been mutually decided to continue the screening in the same 11:30 am morning show – without breaking the uninterrupted run of the movie.”
The earlier decision to start screening at 9.15 am was also reversed to 11:15 am under the so-called “an-following” for the film. “Due to public demand, we have decide it would be back to 11.30 am for this week.”
The hashtags #MarathaMandir and #EvergreenDDLJ started trending on Twitter so much with people showing their disappointment. Now that the film is going to run as usual has triggered other hashtags.
Now, who’ll foot the bill? Besides YRF, SRK and Kajol may join hands to keep it going but unless all those who have expressed their sentiments return to see the film Mumbai, it may not run for more than few months.
