As all eyes are keenly observing the alliance between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – Shiv Sena in the government formation of Maharashtra, reports on Tuesday say BJP is in no hurry for negotiations with Shiv Sena and is likely to form government on its own.
According to reports, a BJP leader said, “Our primary aim is to run the government without the Sena’s support. We are in no hurry. If the Sena wants, it may join us but without any condition.”
As per reports, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya said, “As of now, with support of smaller parties and independent MLAs, we have in all 135 MLAs.” Amid the reports that BJP will form a new government by its own, talks with 15 independent candidates are reportedly on.
While talks with both the parties are going on since Sunday, BJP has denied the proposal put forth by Shiv Sena on equal sharing of cabinet seats. A BJP leader reportedly said, “Talks have been happening with Sena since yesterday. Sena wants cabinet berths to be divided on a 1:1 ratio, which is unacceptable to us. We have almost double the number of seats and a strong government at the Centre. We are willing to decide on the basis of 2:1 ratio, but some Sena leaders have told us that are not acceptable to them.”
Though Shiv Sena asked for 21 seats, BJP denied it and offered 14 seats with 10 key portfolios and no deputy CM post.
Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has offered unconditional “outside support” to BJP to form a government. NCP leader Praful Patel has said, "The BJP has emerged as single largest party and we feel that we should given them support from outside so that they can form the government in the interest of the stability and development of the state."
Regarding the offer by NCP to BJP, in the mouthpiece of Shiv Sena’s Saamana, the editorial asked, “The people have not only ensured the defeat of the Congress-NCP but have rubbed their faces in dirt. But the NCP is attempting to get into the same photograph with the BJP. Maybe they will feature in the photo but what about the fact that you are unrecognisable because of the mud on your faces?"
Whereas, RSS has commented on the issue on Monday that they do not want to intervene in it and said, "BJP can decide if they want to accept support of the NCP."
However, BJP is said to be seeking all possibilities to stand by its own and reportedly would get the support of at least 16 parties, which would take its tally to 139.[Tags, BJP, Shiv Sena, Alliance, Maharashtra Poll,
