Kotak Mahindra Bank Introduces Banking Without Internet

Kotak Mahindra has gone one step ahead of other banks with the launch of its banking online without the need for Internet connetivity though it requires SMS services to be present in the mobile phone, besides a fixed individual mobile phone number.

The SMS Banking service called "Kotak Bharat Banking App" enables users to access their banking account, investment account and demat account via their mobile phones and it is available 24X7, said the bank in a statement. "It does not require any login or MPIN to operate. For every transaction, the app initiates an SMS to +91 9971056767 (Kotak Mahindra Bank’s SMS Banking number) to fetch the details," it said.

While standard SMS charges apply, the app can be downloaded from app.kotak.com by users. No separate registration required for using this app nor does it require any password or PIN to operate, the company said.

Kotak Bharat Banking App works only through the mobile number registered with the bank and it allows only basic banking transactions, mobile recharge and fund transfer upto Rs. 2500. "You can transfer a maximum of Rs. 2500/- per transaction per day .The maximum number of transactions to a particular beneficiary can be 10 per day and maximum amount can be Rs. 10,000 per beneficiary per day and & Rs. 25,000 per beneficiary per month," it said.

It reminds the initial online banking introduced by Citibank in India with its own Internet connectivity to the customers in 2000 when the Internet speed was limited and virtually in its infant baby steps age.
