Within three days or the first weekend after the release of the film "Kochadaiyaan" in more than 1000 screens, Rajinikanth animation thriller is raking in more than expected revenue at the world box office amounting to Rs.42 crore.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: "#Kochadaiiyaan opening weekend – Worldwide: ₹ 42 cr gross. All 6 languages. 2D and 3D. SUPERB!."
Though the film has done well in Tamil, the other five versions, including Telugu were disastrous with less than 50% occupancy in many theatres in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It was far behind the the Hindi version too due to Tiger Shroff’s "Heropanti" making it to the top of the chart.
Being an animation film, ‘Kochadaiyaan’ failed to find bigger audience in India. Otherwise, it failed to withstand the competition from the real life drama of Akkineni family film ‘Manam’ in Telugu. Its gross earnings in Andhra/Nizam did not cross even Rs.3 crore for a Rajinikanth film.
Overseas, the earnings crossed Rs.12 crore at the foreign box office.
