Karnataka Cooperation and Sugar Industry Minister H.S. Mahadev Prasad, 58, died after suffering from a massive heart attack on Tuesday morning while staying at a resort near Koppa in Chikkamagaluru district. CM Siddaramaiah expressed shock and dismay and so is the opposition BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa.
His dead body was found in the room in resort which was force-opened when he failed to answer calls or repeated attempts to reach him. When the room was opened using a spare key, the minister’s body was found on a bed. He was in Koppa to attend an official function.
He represented Gundlupete constituency in Chamarajanagar district, and was known to be a close associate of the Chief Minister. He had undergone a bypass surgery few years ago, said reports. Expressing his shock, Siddaramaiah said:"It is a huge personal loss to me and to Congress party. He was an able administrator and a clean politician. I have lost a close friend and a wonderful colleague."
The Karnataka state government has declared one-day government holiday and three days state mourning following the minister’s death.
