JNU Students Union leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who was barred from entering the campus of Hyderabad central University by Vice Chancellor Appa Rao Podile, on Wednesday, turned the main gate into a public meeting and addressed the media, which would reach both the administration inside the campus and those watching the events from outside.
In a rare show of amateur and anti-student move, the university administration turned tough to let Kanhaiya Kumar inside, apparently at the best of the BJP and ABVP acitivists who have been raising slogans against Kanhaiya Kumar and the Dalit action committee, which has organised the meeting.
Addressing the media along with Rohith Vemula’s mother Radhika, Kanhaiya Kumar said, “Lathis will not silence the students. The government should bring into force Rohith Act to ensure justice for all students including the dalit students on campuses across the country.
Kanhaiya Kumar vowed continuation of the agitation which he said will not be deterred by mere lathicharge and obstruction of student leaders from entering the campus. He later left the gate and is expected to address in Hyderabad tomorrow.
Otherwise, with non-teaching staff on a surprisingly uncalled strike, no food, no water, no internet connection and the campus has become an open prison for the students.
