As Chiranjeevi entered the TV hosting with Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu, Jr NTR is reportedly woed by StarMAA TV to host Big Boss in Telugu. Currently, the popular TV show in Hindi is being hosted by Salman Khan and it remained popular though some latest seasons have failed to evoke the same TRP rating.
But what is worrying for Jr NTR is the reported failure of even Chiranjeevi-hosted Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu that could not ignite the same interest as Nagarjuna-hosted MEK season earlier. While the management change was one reason, the dilution of the TV show to end up hosting children proved fatal for Chiranjeevi’s popularity in the film field that was resurrected with his “Khaidi No. 150” last December.
Notwithstanding the cinema success, Chiranjeevi’s MEK show remained a non-starter until his 150th film’s success. When it was telecast early this year with some interesting though cosmetic changes, the popular show failed mainly because there was no concurrent screenings held by the company to ignite interest among viewers and possible potential participants in the show.
As was the case with Amitabh Bachchan-hosted KBC, even MEK could have gone well if the screening process for new participants was also held or the hope factor was kept alive for the audience. The simple technique for such shows is viewers’ enthusiasm and hope to make it one day to the hot seat. Had StarMAA kept this window open, Chiranjeevi’s MEK would have become an ever-green success.
Coming to Jr NTR, before hosting the Big Boss show, he should assess how to kindle interest among Telugu viewers who prefer to see a film in theatre than seeing artificial quarrels and stage-managed duels on a TV life.
