In a rare frankness, Telugu hero Junior NTR has revealed to Eenadu TV audience on Sunday that he did undergo liposuction after realizing that his fat body was not fitting the role he played in “Rakhi”, and thanked director Rajamouli for incentivizing him to downsize his body shape.
Grandson of late NT Rama Rao, the doyen of Telugu film industry and former CM of Andhra Pradesh, Junior NTR told ETV special show “JAyapradam”, named after the host, Jayaprada, who was one of the most successful heroine of senior NTR in many hits from during the 1970s.
In an unprecedented revelation that he never directly admitted to the media, he told Jayaprada,”Yes, I have got liposuction done and after that I was exercising to keep myself trim. It is no secret and everybody knows.” More than the rumours, he has made it open now and he can keep his head high now in his future career.
Born to Harikrishna, one of NTR’s sons, Junior NTR said he was named by his grandfather who changed his name from mere Tarakaram to Taraka Ramarao, bequething his own name to him among all the grandsons. “He gave me his name and what else can you can from him,” said a humble Junior NTR in the show, befitting his grandfather’s stature.
He said once NTR had told him to keep up the family name and fame and then he will do his level best to prop him up. The strength his words gave him was enormous that he was shattered when NTR’s sudden death evaporated all his hopes. But the name is all the property he gave and it holds high till today, said Junior NTR with the clipping from “Yamadonga” with NTR saying that the famous dialogue that he gave him his name and he should stand up to it.
Born 20 May, 1983, Junior NTR started as a child artist in Ramayanam, which won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Filmand achieved his breakthrough with the blockbuster film Student No.1. His roles in Aadi(2002), Simhadri (2003) and “Rakhi” were from his old body shape that has disturbed many directors.
With R.R. Rajamouli, he made Yamadonga(2007) after undergoing liposuction in the US and it was not only a success but turned around the tables for the third generation of heroes in the industry. His other film Adhurs (2010), Brindavanam (2010), Baadshah (2013) and Temper (2015) kept him going on top of the charts.
So far, he has worked in 27 films, 2 as child artist and one as cameo and 24 as a lead actor. He has won two state Nandi Awards, one Filmfare Best Telugu Actor Award and three CineMAA Awards. He is also the brand ambassador for Malabar Gold, Himani Navratna Hair Oil and Zandu Balm in Telugu.
Junior NTR has been featured as the 66th of the top 100 Forbes India Celebrities for 2012 with an annual income of ₹19Crore (US$3.042 Million). Jr. NTR has also campaigned for his grandfather’s political party, the Telugu Desam Party and campaigned for it along with his uncle Balakrishna in the 2014 elections, helping it to come back to power in Andhra Pradesh and remain the main opposition in Telangana.
