In a show of thanksgiving, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students’ union President Kanhaiya Kumar visited Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, three days after he met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday.
When Kanhaiya Kumar was abruptly arrested by overzealous Delhi Police on Februay 9 that too after slapping colonial period’s draconian sedition charges, the shocked campus was visited by Rahul Gandhi who reahced out immediately and extended moral support and went to the extent of accusing the BJP leaders of being anti-nationals. Soon, several political leaders visited the campus and the whole country was rocked by non-BJP parties and a wave of anti-BJP sentiment.
The delegation of Kanhaiya Kumar included some JNU students union members and the All India Students’ Federation (AISF) members to which Kanhaiya Kumar belongs. Congress has supported Kanhaiya Kumar from the beginning and even in Assam polls, it is using his image to thwart BJP attemtps to win the Assembly elections next month.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who has drawn several similarities between Kanhaiya Kumar and freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. Even Kejriwal criticised Modi for the government’s assaults on university students from Rohith Vemula case in University fo Hyderabad to Kanhaiya Kumar in JNU.
