In a bizarre coincidence, the jail authorities of Tihar have chosen to keep JNUSU leader Kanhaiya Kumar in the same cell where the 2001 Parliament attacks mastermind Afzal Guru was kept, said Manoramaonline.com.
Kumar was kept in jail number 3 and in the same cell where Afzal Guru was kept before he was hanged to death later. Officials defended the move saying it was high-security zone within Tihar keeping in view threat to life of Kumar. He was arrested by Delhi Police for being present at the event where anti-national elements raised slogans. Now intelligence reports too said he possibly did not raise any anti-India slogan that invited the charge of sedition by Delhi Police.
Though Kanhaiya Kumar was remanded to judicial custory till March 2, the Supreme Court will hear his bail plea tomorrow, Friday, almost a week after his arrest from JNU sending the whole nation into shock and dismay.
Delhi police chief B.S. Bassi initially said there was enough evidence against the student leader, then said it was to teach a lesson to all JNU students and then retracted the stand saying they will not oppose his bail plea.
