AIADMK leader J. Jayalalithaa will return as Tamil Nadu chief minister once again with the oath taking ceremony scheduled to be held in Chennai at 11 am on Saturday, May 23, 2015, eight months after she quit following her conviction in a Bangalore court over unaccounted assets.
Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah will administer the oath tomorrow at the Centenary Hall of Madras University and 28 other ministers of her ministry will also be sworn in and no surprises will be there in the formation of the cabinet, party sources said.
Her close confidante Mr Paneerselvam will return to be the Finance Minister, as before. Since she has resigned as MLA last time, she has to win again an MLA seat and the party MLA from RK Nagar in Chennai has resigned to accommodate the party chief contest and win.
The next state assembly elections are due in 2016 and there is speculation that Jayalalithaa may opt for early polls in view of sympathy she gained in the last eight months.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka government under the Congress is likely to delay the process of an appeal in the Supreme Court against her acquittal by the High Court early this month, unless there is pressure from the BJP and other parties.
